We left the guesthouse at 4:40 am for the famous Angkor Wat sunrise. It was still dark so we used our smart phones as flashlights. You have to walk very carefully on the pathway or else you may stumble on rough stones or fall on the moat.
This was Day 2 of our Cambodia trip. The itinerary –catch the sunrise at Angkor Wat, explore Bayon then Phimeanakas, Baphuon, Terrace of the Elephants then Lepers, Neak Pean, Preah Khan, Ta Phrom, Prasat Kravan and last one – Roluos group.
First stop was the Sunrise. It was cloudy so the breathtaking sunrise was partially hidden.

Bayon Temple – official state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII.

Baphuon Temple- the state temple of Udayadityavarman II dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva (evil destroyer).

Elephant Terrace – Used by King Jayavarman VII as a platform to view his victorious returning army. Nearby tourist spots are Phimeanakas and the Terrace of the Lepers.

Neak Pean and Preah Khan

Ta Phrom – Originally a Buddhist Monastery and a University.

Ta Keo temple -State temple of Jayavarman V.

We also visited other small temples and the man-made Srah Srang lake. We’re supposed to visit the Rolous group but we didn’t have enough time. We then decided to go back to the guesthouse and had dinner at the Pub Street. I will be posting photos, interesting facts and things to do + see at the Pub Street for my next entries.
